In my travels I have noticed that Americans say “be safe” or “safe travels.” I don’t hear this language in other cultures.
I wonder why Americans say this?

I’ve heard this-along with “How are you today?” for every occasion imaginable-repeatedly over the last decade. This has always felt like a downer and a curse–fearmongering, to be precise.
